Coconut Oils’ Anti-Inflammatory Properties

Virgin coconut oil reduces inflammation without the side-effects of some anti-inflammatory mediations. Inflammation might just be the least considered enemy of health… that is, until recently. The list of diseases linked to inflammation is extensive.

Anti-Inflammatory Medications

Natural alternative to NSAIDs or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which is pronounced “en-saids.  NSAIDs are the most prescribed medications for  the treatment of conditions like arthritis.  Other types of  NSAIDs are aspirin and ibuprofen.   Some of the downsides to NSAIDs are bruising more easily, and increased risk experiencing nausea or stomach upset, or even an ulcer. NSAIDs can also interfere with kidney function1.  Therefore, as an alternative, it would be good to use a natural food like coconut oil reduces inflammation without the side-effects of NSAIDs.

A study by the National Institute of Health VCO or Virgin Coconut Oil, “exhibited an inhibitory effect on chronic inflammation by reducing the transudative weight, granuloma formation, and serum alkaline phosphatase activity.”

Lauric acid from coconut oil kills the bacteria responsible for inflammatory acne, according to researchers from the University of California San Diego who reported their findings in the October 2010 issue of “Biomaterials.”
